Development – Learning to Train
- Training Period: 2 Years
- Recommend Session: Building up over sessions over time to age in sessions per a fortnight
- Yearly Training: 40-48 Weeks a year
- Age Range: Males: 11-14, Females: 10-13 (+/- a year)
About:
- This Group is focused on competitive swimming. This stage focuses on understanding training sets and how to apply strong technical swimming skills to them.
- Swimmers will have a strong focus on developing aerobic base, basic speed work.
- Motor Learning
- Maintain efficient technique as training volume increases
- Accommodate increases in muscle strength to improve swimming efficiency
- Retain diversity of performance goals (compete in various stroke events and distances)
- Improve both steady pace and sprint performance using ideal stroke technique (all strokes)
- Knowledge & Attitudes
- Enjoyment of swimming activities and desire for personal improvement
- Broader knowledge of training methods and the resulting performance outcomes
- Improved personal management skills (balancing training, school and social objectives)
- Develop self-discipline and increasing commitment to swimming
